TM R&D and ZTE to collaborate on optical network research
- TM R&D already initiated photonics and optical research with Malaysian universities
- To proportion their research centers and create mirroring labs in China and Malaysia

TELEKOM Research & Development Sdn Bhd (TM R&D), a completely-owned subsidiary of Telekom Malaysia Bhd (TM), has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with ZTE (Malaysia) Corporation Sdn Bhd to collaborate on subsequent-generation passive optical network (NGPON) research to enable higher bandwidth for TM customers.
Under the MoU, each parties will percentage their studies centers and create mirroring labs in China and Malaysia, TM R&D said in a statement.
ZTE is the biggest public indexed telecom answer provider in China with 18 R&D (research and improvement) centres globally using over 20,000 employees. Every 12 months, ZTE invests approximately US$1.5 billion in R&D, the Malaysian employer said.
“The capability and functionality developed on this field has attracted the eye of worldwide technology businesses like ZTE to collaborate in further pushing the limits in this essential telecommunications generation,” he brought.
ZTE has been operating in Malaysia for extra than 10 years, serving all of the main Malaysian telecommunication operators. Since 2009, it has been one of the key technology companions to Telekom Malaysia’s HSBB (High Speed Broad Brand) assignment.
Recently, Telekom Malaysia awarded ZTE a contract to roll out its first national LTE (Long-Term Evaluation) wi-fi task.
“This MoU is in step with ZTE’s company approach to hold running with pinnacle R&D centres at some point of the world and we foresee this collaboration will advantage each events, especially in NGPON improvement,” said ZTE Malaysia coping with director Steven Ge.
